Adults

Thinktank offers a range events and activities specifically aimed at adults.  Whether you are looking for an informal event in a pub or a reminiscence session in your local group venue, we have a variety of events that might just suit your needs.

Birmingham Cafe Scientifique

Cafes Scientifique are informal and lively discussion events around contemporary science issues that take place in local bars, cafes and pubs. Taking place on the first Tuesday of every month, we feature a variety of local scientists and engineers, talking about their work and how it affects the average person in the street. Always fun, sometimes controversial, these events are a great way to get to the heart of the matter.

Newcomen Society

The Newcomen Society is the world's oldest learned society devoted to the study of the history of engineering and technology. The Society is based in London and is concerned with all branches of engineering: civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, aeronautical, marine, chemical and manufacturing.

The Midlands Branch of the Newcomen Society holds its series of Winter evening Lectures in the Thinktank Theatre.

Adult group visits

We can offer a variety of fun days out for adults ranging from special interest groups to Stag and Hen parties.  Whether you are a retired engineer, a group of friends or just a large family, as long as there are at least 10 of you visiting in a single group you can qualify for our special group rates.

You can either come into the museum and explore to your heart's content but why not talk to us first and see if we can make your day a bit more special; we can even help devise an itinerary that suits your needs and includes gallery time, a trip to the planetarium or even some sort of activity!

Whether you want to make a stopped frame animation video or maybe make your own DNA or take part in an object handling collection, we have a variety of activities waiting for you to take part in.

You can bring your own lunch in with you or there are facilities on site such as Point cafe on Level 2 of Millennium Point.

Adult Outreach

Thinktank has recently launched an adult Outreach service.  We currently provide cognitive stimulation sessions such as reminiscence or handling collections to Nursing and Care homes but the activities are suitable for any group of adults that would like to handle some of the museum collections in their own environment.
